Seung-Yeop Lee came up with a big 2-run double in the 3rd. Alex Ramirez added a third run for insurance in the bottom of the 7th, just when it felt as if the tide was beginning to turn for the Tigers. This was a big win for the Giants -- the two teams now have 3 games remaining and the magic number for the Giants is 2.
Despite having some control issues (6 walks), Testuya Utsumi still managed to hold the Tigers to 1 run over his 5.2 innings of work. The Giants' bullpen also did a great job, shutting the door and holding the Tigers to 2 hits over the remaining 3.1 innings of the game.
The Tigers bullpen has been fairly overworked lately and the rain-out was actually celebrated by the manager. Scott Atchison and Kyuji Fujikawa have pitched in 4 of the 5 games the team has played in this month. And at one point, Atchison had appeared in 10 straight and Fujikawa 9. In order to give the bullpen more time to rest, Yuya Ando wanted to pitch more, but after 4 innings and 84 pitches, he was pulled and the Tigers trotted out Jeff Williams for 1 inning, Scott Atchison for 2 innings, and Kyuji Fujikawa for the last inning. The bullpen wasn't spotless, but it did well considering the circumstances (1 ER over 4 innings).
NOTES: Seiichi Uchikawa went 0-for-3 (.378) and Norichika Aoki went 1-for-4 (.354).

The Yakult Swallows beat the Yokohama Bay Stars, 4-1.
Yoshinori Sato has been fairly inconsistent, but he did a nice job last night against the Yokohama Bay Stars. He tossed 8 innings while giving up only 1 run on 2 hits. Yoshinori started the game by retiring the frst 17 batters and then gave up a single to break-up the no hitter (6.2 innings of perfect ball). The one run he gave up came in the top of the 8th and Yuuki Yoshimura drilled a 1-0 fastball down the middle for his 33rd home run of the season.
