NPB Roundup - 10/11: Giants win, Tigers lose

Central League
The Yomiuri Giants beat the Yakult Swalloes, 3-2.
The Giants could have easily thrown this game away after clinching first place last night, but they fought back to win the game by scoring 3 runs in the top of the 7th.
Alex Ramirez started the top of the 7th with his 45th home run of the season. A walk, a foul out, a stolen base, and a single later, the second run of the inning scored. The third run scored a stolen base, a walk, a ground out (moving runners to second and third), and a bad throw to first later. The Giants would hold onto that one run lead to win the game, 3-2.
NOTES: Norichika Aoki went 0-for-4 with a strike out and a walk (.348).
The Yokohama Bay Stars beat the Hanshin Tigers, 5-4.
Now that the Giants have clinched first, the next two games (including today's) probably don't carry much weight with the Tigers. I think the most important thing for the Tigers now is to give the bullpen some rest and prepare themselves for the Climax Series. But I think it would also be wrong to say that losing 2 games straight against the doormat to the Central League would have no effect on the team's psyche.
The Bay Stars got out in front earlier, scoring two runs in the first. The Tigers would reply with one run in the top of the 4th, and then 3 more runs in the top of the 7th to take a 4-2 lead. But that lead wouldn't last for very long as the Bay Stars began their half of the 7th with 2 straight singles. A sac hit later, with runners on second and third, Kazuya Fujita drove in a run with a grounder to short. Seiichi Uchikawa then followed with his 14th home run of the season, a 2-run shot that gave the Bay Stars a 1 run lead.
The Tigers managed to get singles in both the 8th and the 9th innings, but not much other than that.
NOTES: Seiichi Uchikawa went 2-for-4 (.378). ... The Tiger have now lost 4 straight games and would most likely want to end the season tomorrow with a win against the Dragons.
